Code of Conduct and Support
Dance and social event expectations
Our school socials are a fun opportunity for GCMS students to connect, dance, and enjoy time together outside the classroom. To help everyone have a safe and enjoyable experience, all attendees are expected to follow a clear set of expectations around arrival and pick-up, behavior, dress code, and supervision. Only eligible GCMS students may attend, and school rules—including the Spartan Way and Code of Conduct—remain in effect. Please review the full list of expectations below to ensure a great time for all.
- The social begins at 7 p.m. and ends at 8:30 p.m.
- Students must arrive on time and be picked up promptly at the conclusion of the event.
- An adult will supervise the entrance for the first 30 minutes. At 7:30 p.m., the doors will be locked, and no students will be admitted after that time.
- Parents and guardians should drop off and pick up students at the front of the building (Door 1). No one will be permitted to enter unless they are a GCMS student attending the event or a preapproved chaperone.
- Music and dancing will take place in the cafeteria with a DJ. The gym will be open for students who wish to shoot hoops.
- Only GCMS students who have not appeared on the ineligibility list since the last social may attend.
- All students are expected to follow the Code of Conduct and model the Spartan Way, including adhering to the school dress code.
- Students may bring a small amount of money to purchase snacks or drinks. Please avoid bringing $20 bills; smaller denominations such as $1 and $5 bills are preferred.
- Students must remain in the designated areas for the event. Access to lockers or other parts of the school is not permitted.
- Student pickup will begin at 8:15 p.m. at the front entrance.
- Students are expected to be picked up on time. Late pickups may impact future participation in events.
- For safety reasons, students may not walk home from evening socials—even those with a walking pass.
Dignity for All Students Act (DASA)
At Gates Chili Central School District, we are committed to providing a safe, supportive and inclusive learning environment where every student feels valued and respected. We recognize that a student’s ability to learn and achieve high academic standards is directly impacted by the environment in which they learn. That’s why we take incidents of bullying, discrimination and harassment seriously.
In accordance with the New York State Dignity for All Students Act (DASA), we strive to foster a school culture that is free from bullying, intimidation, taunting, discrimination and harassment—including cyberbullying. This applies to all students, regardless of actual or perceived race, color, weight, national origin, ethnic group, religion, religious practice, disability, sexual orientation, gender, or sex.
The district prohibits all forms of bullying, discrimination and harassment by students or staff, whether it occurs on school property, at school-sponsored events, or off-campus if it disrupts the school environment.
